16. Donald Trump’s Legacy on Infancy to Date 6/25, Part I

I read with anguish and sadness about the effects of this president’s legislative measures, and I wonder how many millions of people will suffer as a result. Did the believers in universal or Judeo-Christian values who voted for Trump knew the damage he could cause? Because I sincerely believe most of them didn’t, I am writing this note in which I will mention, with appropriate justification, the consequences of several of these measures. In order not to be too long-winded, I will consider them separately, including, starting with the second, a link to each of the previous ones.

  1. Let’s start with Infant Deaths:

According to the most recent studies—some published recently in The Lancet and reported by media outlets such as The Guardian, The Washington Post, and El País—the abrupt closure of USAID has already had serious consequences for children’s health, and catastrophic impacts are projected in the coming years:

1. Childhood deaths already recorded (through mid-2025)

• A model by Brooke Nichols of Boston University estimates that more than 208,000 children have already died due to the funding freeze and cuts to USAID.

• Around 2,400 babies have reportedly died specifically due to the suspension of the PEPFAR (Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) program, according to the same source.

2. Projections for the next three years

According to the Barcelona Institute for Global Health and The Lancet:

• It is projected that between 2025 and 2030, 4.5 million child deaths (under five years of age) could occur, directly attributable to the disappearance of vital programs such as maternal and child health, nutrition, malaria, HIV, and vaccines.

3. Global Model of Additional Deaths:

• The study estimates that if the cuts are not reversed, an additional 1.78 to 2.5 million deaths per year are expected between 2025 and 2030, which translates to 5.3 to 7.5 million deaths over three years.

These figures represent a massive humanitarian emergency and highlight the critical importance of international cooperation and the urgent restoration of USAID programs.

And do you know how much this cancellation saves? 0.03% of the federal budget!

Were Trump’s voters, particularly those who belive in universal/judeochristian values, truly aware of this consequence of their vote?
